Expand the Conflict

Having reduced the problem down to a singular contradiction on "one" feature with "two" states, our next aim is to push the "two" states to their very extremes. This helps us to see more clearly the contradiction and to begin to challenge it for a solution.

Contradiction - inconsistency, an opposition or conflict.

Dilemma - a position where each of two alternatives is equally undesirable.

Cup is (too) hot - dilemma is cup is hot and cup is cold.
