PERSONALITY

Ego is the logical, rational, realistic part of the personality, Reality Principle .  It considers the constraints of the real world in determining appropriate times, places and objects of gratification of the id's wishes. The art of the possible is its guide and sometime compromise must be made. Superego , the moral component of the personality.  The Superego has two parts: (1)  conscience consists of all the behaviors for which a child has been punished or feels guilty. (2)  the ego ideal comprises the behavior for which feels pride and satisfaction. In its quest for moral perfection, the superego sets guidelines.  The superego judges not only behavior, but also thought, feelings, and wishes.
